The success of the shoot depends on the relationship I succeed creating with my models. I’ve turned up for shoots with people who I’ve never met before, having communicated only by email or text message. It helps that I’m a naturally curious person and enjoy learning about other people and their lives.

Part of building rapport is getting my models genuinely interested in the photoshoot and take pride in being part of it.

I always take a genuine interest in my models and what it is they do that made me want to make a character portrait of them in the first place.
